About Gypsy Jazz and how Hot House West started:
In the final years of his tenure on Earth, Django Reinhardt brought his inimitable sound to the rising star of Bebop. His explosive guitar playing, coupled with the rich wail of horns, created a rare and beautiful moment in the history of music; swing, bebop, horns, and a unique gypsy sensibility came together for a flash before Reinhardt’s untimely death in 1953. Hot House West is born of this moment.
With two guitars, upright bass, trumpet, trombone, and clarinet coming together as a cohesive unit and a dynamic force, Hot House West creates a rich tapestry of sound that honors the lineage of gypsy jazz while creating a music that is fresh and original. Most importantly, the band knows how to groove, pulling listeners to their feet as each song, each musical tale, unfolds in unexpected ways, capturing the improvisational legacy of jazz.
