Excellence in the Community is 501 C3 not for profit corporation founded on a simple idea: We believe the Wasatch Front's finest musicians are a valuable world class resource that could be better deployed to improve the quality of life in our communities and enhance our area's reputation to visitors. The Wasatch Front in Utah is home to many world class musicians who generally perform in the background at private and corporate events. We believe there is a gap in the public's perception between what our finest musicians are currently doing and what they are capable of doing. Excellence in the Community moves local musicians from the background to the concert hall and turns on the spotlights. We showcase local excellence. One concert at a time we prove our point: the area's top musicians are worthy of any stage; and one concert at a time we move toward our larger goal of establishing Utah as a center for world class music of many genres.
Help us. Be part of an idea whose time has come.
Jeff Whiteley, Founder and Director, Excellence in the Community -
"Response to our concerts demonstrates that this is an idea whose time has come.
Currently we present two concerts a month: one in the Salt Lake area generally in the Emma Eccles Jones Conservatory on the Westminster College campus and one in Ogden at the Egyptian Theater."
Funding: The initial concert series at Westminster College is close to self-sustaining. In other words we generate enough on ticket sales to cover our costs. Whatever we have accomplished as of the present (10/02/06) has been done through word of mouth, favorable articles in the Deseret Morning News and the Salt Lake Tribune, interviews at the gracious invitation of KUER radio, and help from HIres Big H Restaurants and the GAM foundation and private contributors.
Excellence in the Community seeks to expand the program to other communities and to the public schools along the Wasatch Front. To do this we seek contributions from private individuals and from corporate sponsors. As a 501 C3 any monies donated to Excellence in the Community are tax deductible.
