Caleb Chapman and the Crescent All Stars
| Caleb Chapman and the Crescent Super Band. Organized in 2001 under the direction of Caleb Chapman, the award-winning Crescent Super Band has frequently been hailed as one of the best professional bands in the world to be comprised entirely of young musicians. The band has been featured at many of the world’s most prominent music festivals including venues in Switzerland, the Netherlands, Italy, and France. The band also has a strong national presence with recent performances in Chicago, Boston, New York, Telluride and Park City.
In 2007, DownBeat Magazine recognized the Crescent Super Band with their coveted "DownBeat Award". The band has also won four “Best of State” awards for Utah and the prestigious BOSS Award identifying the band as the top organization in Arts and Entertainment in Utah, beating out every other professional music group for the honor. They've caught the attention of many of today's top artists as well. Since its inception the band has performed with well over one hundred guest artists including Grammy winners Gordon Goodwin, Joe Lovano, Randy Brecker, Nicholas Payton, Christian McBride, Eric Marienthal, Dave Weckl, Bob Mintzer, Ernie Watts, and Dave Samuels. Other notable guest artists have included Jeff Coffin (Dave Matthews Band), Chester Thompson (Genesis), Steve Smith (Journey), Gregg Bissonette (Ringo Starr) and former Utah Governor, Jon Huntsman, Jr., to name a few. The band has released five full-length albums on the Big Swing Face Record Label, including their latest release, “What Is Hip”, featuring Saturday Night Live band leader, Lenny Pickett. Caleb Chapman Artistic Director At a young age, Caleb has already left a permanent mark on the music industry. His vision and accomplishments have marked him as a rising star, both domestically and now internationally. As the President of Caleb Chapman Music, Caleb directs over 100 of Utah’s most talented young musicians in five elite ensembles, including the award-winning Crescent Super Band. Previous to his current position, Caleb founded The Music School in 1999 and architected an innovative approach to music education which proved to produce many of the nation's most desirable young musicians. He also designed and authored what became the proprietary curriculum system utilized by the school. In 2006 he gained the attention of the renowned Juilliard School, which led to the conservatory's affiliation with The Music School, making the school the only one in the country to have this designation. He also established unique relationships with the prestigious Berklee College of Music and most of Utah’s top music organizations, including Keith Lockhart and the Utah Symphony, and the Gina Bachauer Foundation. Caleb is currently working on a new album with NBA star and award-winning vocalist, Thurl Bailey. His efforts in music have also earned three declarations from Utah Governor, John Huntsman, Jr. In 2007 he was honored as the inaugural inductee into the Horne School of Music Hall of Fame and received the “Superior Accomplishment in Music Award” from the Utah Music Educators Association. He is the 2006 recipient of the KUER FM90 “Voice of Jazz Award”. Caleb currently holds the position of Artistic Director with the Park City Jazz Festival. He is an Education Expert for the newly formed Jazz Education Network (JEN), as well as the past president of the Utah unit of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) and an Education Expert on the organization's international resource team. Additionally, Mr. Chapman holds membership in the Music Educators National Conference and serves on the Executive Board of JazzSLC, presenters of the Salt Lake City Jazz at the Sheraton Series. | |
