Chris Proctor

Chris Proctor, winner of the U.S. National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship in 1982, and popular Sugarhouse, Rounder, Flying Fish and Windham Hill recording artist will be performing in concert. A nationally-recognized 6 and 12-string guitarist, composer, recording artist, performer, and clinician for Taylor Guitars, Proctor has also produced several books and videos which teach his original style and compositions for solo guitar, and writes extensively for the guitar press. He is touring to promote his new release and eighth solo recording, The Chris Proctor Collection on Sugarhouse Records, the new Windham Hill release “Sounds of Wood and Steel 3,” his new 12-string instructional DVD for Homespun Tapes, and the brand new Warner Music book/instructional CD, Chris Proctor, Guitar Collection.

Chris Proctor is known nationwide as one of the modern masters of fingerstyle guitar, and is at the forefront of the contemporary steel-string guitar movement. Since winning the National Fingerstyle Guitar competition, he has toured constantly, releasing a steady stream of recordings of his own compositions and arrangements. His music is rooted in classic Americana- spiced with folk, Celtic, jazz, pop, and classical flavors, all of which are in evidence in the 16 newly recorded original pieces which comprise The Chris Proctor Collection. His recent popular and critical hit, Under the Influence, is a stunning set of arrangements of the music that shaped his artistic development. He has appeared on two very popular Windham Hill Guitar Samplers and has been a clinician for Taylor Guitars since 1984. To honor him Taylor recently manufactured 100 "Chris Proctor Signature Model" guitars to his unique design specifications.

Chris’s warm stage presence and sense of humor, his 12-string and slide work, his adventurous 6-string techniques and tunings, his stunning original guitar pieces and arrangements, and his pioneering use of the electronic bow have all made him a favorite with guitar fans everywhere.
